A Session of Hungarian – Turkish Economic Joint Committee on Defense Industry to be Held in Budapest

Minister for Technology and Industry László Palkovics held talks in Ankara on cooperation in the defense industry with Mustafa Varank, the Minister for Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey.

After their talks, László Palkovics underlined that Hungary has decided to produce various military equipment in her own country with the inclusion of foreign partners in technology. Among these, one of the most significant projects is the manufacturing of four-wheel drive armored vehicles which may be launched in October. The two ministers coordinated the technological conditions of this. At the same time, they exchanged their views on how cooperation in the military field could be enhanced and include equipment in the production which Turkey is in the vanguard. Drones, autonomic flying equipment or their weaponry and armor belong to this category. A Hungarian joint venture company in Kaposvár is planned to launch their manufacturing.

The other major topic of the talks in Ankara was energy. The background of the energy industry in Turkey is strong. As an example, László Palkovics cited solar panels or other components connected to the electric network. The minister stressed that we would like to convince the Turkish companies that they should be manufacturing such spare parts and solar panels in Hungary too. Minister Palkovics also added that it was during these talks that the sides were preparing the session of the Hungarian – Turkish Economic Joint Committee in December. It is to be held in Budapest with the participation of Turkish businessmen.
