Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev over the phone and congratulated him on winning the elections on June 9. Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) expressed his congratulations to the re-elected President of Uzbekistan in a letter.
In the opinion of Viktor Orbán, the electoral success faithfully indicates that the people of Uzbekistan are committed to the stability and reforms accomplished by President Mirziyoyev. The Prime Minister of Hungary pointed out that his Government will continue to work in order to develop the political and economic ties between Hungary and Uzbekistan. Viktor Orbán and Shavkat Mirziyoyev were pleased to state that several Hungarian companies have already made a marked appearance on the market of Uzbekistan, e.g. in the banking sector, and in the field of communications and trade.
On Monday the Central Electoral Commission of Uzbekistan declared the early elections on Sunday valid. The elections – in harmony with the preliminary expectations – were won by the incumbent president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The elections were called after a referendum had approved the amendment of the constitution that raises the presidential term from five to seven years.
The International Electoral Observer Commission of the OTS, headed by Deputy Secretary General Sadi Japarov was also present during the elections. In connection with the voting, the Commission issued the communiqué below:
