The Festival of Crafts, in which about one thousand craftsmen will be taking part, is going to be held for the 35th time already. The greatest folklore festival in Hungary will be waiting for the visitors between Kapisztrán Square and Szentháromság Square in the Buda Castle from August 20th till the 22nd. Those interested in the Festival for the families, which recalls the spirit of the market places of former times, this year will – for the first time – be able to visit the event as part of the national holiday free of charge. The guests of honor will be the countries that speak Turkic languages, and the leading topic of the Festival will be the crafts that are connected with hunting and fishing. While the little ones will be entertained by the Corner of Tales and a puppet show, the adults will be able to acquaint themselves in workshops with the crafts that are linked to hunting and fishing. These are the crafts of making knives and leather ware, wood and horn carving and weaving nets.
On behalf of the guests of honor, carpet weavers from Azerbaijan, the makers of traditional wear and felt from Kazakhstan, batik makers from Uzbekistan, Tatar leather craftsmen, as well as craftsmen from Turkey and Kyrgyzstan will also be present. The feel of the market place will be generated by tooters, men walking on stilts and show people who will present the traditional and revised culture of pearls from Kalotaszeg at an exhibition. The visitors can have a glimpse of the secrets of making jewellery with the help of a photo exhibition and presentations by craftsmen.
The Muzsikás Orchestra, Mónika Lakatos and the Gipsy Voices, János Csík and the Mezzo, as well as Dezső Fitos and his Drama Group will all perform at the Festival. The Heritage House will also be present with its programs, among them with the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and with the Pocket-concert. The Festival is waiting for its visitors with tales and puppet shows for the kids, and with fashion shows, day care, concerts, dance performances and dance houses, as well folks pubs for the adults. The former are in the morning, the latter in the afternoon and in the evening.
