Vera Voronova, the executive director of the Association for Preserving Biodiversity in Kazakhstan (ACBK), as well as Albert Salemgareyev, the technical coordinator of the Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative of the ACBK were the guests on the main stage of Pavilion “A” of the HUNGEXPO for the series of talks “World Conservation Forum 2021,” one of the most important initiatives of „One With Nature – World of Hunting and Nature Exhibition.” (The video made on the main stage can be viewed on the English language homepage of the Representation Office of the Turkic Council in Budapest.)
The discussion held on the main stage was moderated by Dr. Miklós Jármi, the well-known horse breeding expert from Hungary, the owner of the Jármy estate. The subject matter was a genuine international project of protecting the environment in 21st century, the program of the resettlement of the so called Przewalski’s horses to Kazakhstan. This program is supported by both the Representation Office of the Turkic Council in Budapest and the Directorate of the National Park of Hortobágy which jointly participate in the successful implementation of the project.
After the discussion, Ambassador János Hóvári, the Executive Head of the Representation Office of the Turkic Council in Budapest initiated an exchange of ideas at the stand of the organization in Pavilion “A.” In this, Zhanibek Abdrashov, the Ambassador of the Kazakh Republic to Hungary, Yedil Myrzakhanov, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Kazakh Embassy, on behalf of the Representation Office of the Turkic Council in Budapest Kanat Ydyrys, project manager for Kazakhstan, Zsófia Kraus project coordinator, as well as Jaroslav Simek, the Deputy Director of the Zoo in Prague, responsible for zoological affairs took part. The Directorate of the National Park of Hortobágy was represented by Viola Kerekes project coordinator, Péter Csobán, a guard at nature reserves, Tímea Szabados a researcher into biology, technician Imre Nagy, as well as Dr. Viktória Sós-Koroknai, a veterinary surgeon at the Zoological Garden of Budapest.
During the exchange of ideas, the participants took stock of what has been accomplished so far by the program of protecting the species of Przewalski’s horses, working along the recommendations of the international organization European Endangered Species Program (EEP). They also touched upon the current status of the species in the protection of the environment in Kazakhstan. Not long ago the Przewalski’s horses were included in the Red List of the endangered species of the country. Thus, its local protection on the basis of international projects has been made possible.
