On October 11, 2024 Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with Akylbek Üsönbek Japarov in the Carmelite Monastery in Budapest. The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan was paying a working visit to Hungary. In the field of deepening the cooperation between the two countries the Head of Government of Kyrgyzstan put the focus on agriculture, water management and car industry.
During the meeting in the Carmelite Monastery – as far as the international issues were concerned – the Sides emphasized the importance of peace, since the war in Ukraine has a harmful effect on our economies, as well as the developing of our bilateral trade ties. Akylbek Japarov stressed that he believes that our bilateral cooperation can be deepened in the first place in the field of agriculture and water management.
The Sides took stock of the results of the strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as the issues on the agenda of the official negotiations of Prime Minister Orbán to Bishkek due in November.
During the visit Prime Minister Japarov was received by Péter Szijjártó. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade stated that “the relations between Hungary and Kyrgyzstan are becoming ever closer, since Hungary started building her ties with the dynamically developing Central Asian region in time. We have already profited a lot from this,” said Péter Szijjártó. He also added: the relations between the two countries are becoming closer and closer. Last year produced a record in the volume of foreign trade, and it shows a significant growth this year too.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade pointed out that the Hungarian companies are able to achieve success after success on the market of Kyrgyzstan, among others in the health and pharmaceutical industry, in the food industry and in the branch of seeds. We have already managed to finance two investments in mechanical engineering and one in animal husbandry out of the Hungarian–Kyrgyz Development Fund, established with a capital of USD16 million a few years ago. At the moment, the feasibility study of an investment in utilizing water energy is going on.
Péter Szijjártó stated that Hungary highly appreciates the role that Kyrgyzstan plays in the struggle against global terrorism.
Ambassador Dr. István Vásáry, the Executive Head of the Representation Office of the Organization of Turkic States in Budapest participated in the plenary session of the above meeting.
