The Host of the Eleventh Summit of the OTS – held in Bishkek on November 6 – was the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. Ambassador Dr. István Vásáry, the Executive Head of the Representation Office of the OTS also participated in the event.
The Summit was hosted by Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan who said that the main objective of the event was to strengthen the Turkic world.
The issues on the agenda of the Summit were economic integration, sustainable development, digital future and security. At the invitation of Kubanichbek Omuraliyev, the Secretary General of the OTS, the following dignitaries – besides President Sadyr Japarov – the took part: Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Rejjep Tajjip Erdogan, the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Shavkat Mirzizoyev, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary.
Before the Summit the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OTS (CFM) also held a session in order to finalize the documents to be signed by the Heads of State.
During the Summit, the Heads of State stressed their strong commitment to deepening and enriching the cooperation in the Turkic world, as well as to enhancing – within the framework of the Organization – the solidarity among the Turkic States.
On the Occasion of the Summit, the „Highest Order of the Turkic World” was awarded to Viktor Orbán. The decoration was handed over to the Prime Minister by President Sadyr Japarov. The „Highest Order of the Turkic World” – estabished in 2019 – is the highest decoration of the OTS. It is awarded to outstanding leaders who have made a significant contribution to strengthening the unity and cooperation among the Turkic states, as well as to maintaning the common cultural heritage. According to the official laudation, Viktor Orbán was awarded the Order ”for his outstanding efforts to strengthening the ties between Hungary and the Turkic states, as well as for his significant contribution to promoting cooperation in the Turkic world.”
In his acceptance speech, Viktor Orbán pointed out: we Hungarians are the Westernmost Eastern people. We have migrated to Europe from the East, and among the peoples, migrating in the similar way, it is only us that have survived. The Prime Minister underlined that the relations between Hungary and the Turkic world should not be a bond of the past but a living link. He also added: he does not regard the decoration as a personal acknowledgement, since over the past one hundred years a high number of people had been making their contributions. Finally, Prime Minister Orbán stated: he has faith in the community of the Turkic people becoming one of the most successful regions in the world.
As the final act of the Summit, when the rotating presidency of the OTS was handed over from the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, the Heads of State signed the Bishkek Declaration of the OTS. The leaders have reached an agreement that the next Summit will be held in Azerbaijan in 2025, and that the informal Summit of the Organization will be held in Hungary, also in 2025.
After the Summit, Secretary General Omuraliyev and the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Zhenbek Kulubayev held a joint press confrence during which they briefed the media on the results and the adopted resolutions of the Eleventh Summit.
